A Tribute to Princess by Elly

This is the story of Princess and the many lives she has touched in her 23 years.  A living tribute seemed like a good thing to do, before the day comes that I am so heartbroken with grief; the happy memories will be clouded with tears. As many of you read this, you will be thinking of your “one” horse. Enjoy the story of my “one”!

How I met Princess

We were new to miniatures and even newer to showing, when we went to visit Sherri and Ed Alliman at Alliman Joy Farm.  Mom and I were flabbergasted -to say the least- at Sherri’s beautiful horses. I think we wanted to take them all home that day!

Sherri answered all our questions and became one of the best friends we have today.  She even convinced us to start showing.  And that is where I first met the “horse that hates horse shows”

I was instantly attracted to Princess. She was the most beautiful pinto I had ever seen.  But it was her personality that everyone loved. You could almost put words to her expressions. She would pout when ignored and sigh when bored. But watch her go into the show ring, and you wouldn’t know it was the same horse!  Tail up, eyes bright, nostrils flared and a trot that said “look at me”. And look they did, I lost count of all the Grands and Reserves she was winning!  And to watch her drive was a dream.

Buying my Dream

Sherri’s time became limited in showing, so she decided to offer Princess for sale. I saw the ad in a magazine before Sherri even called that night. Oh what a night!   In February of 1996, Princess came to live and be loved at Prairie View Farm.

The Rest of Story

By now, some of you are wondering why such a beautiful mare wasn’t producing foals. Strangely, Princess had a beautiful dun colt proudly named “Alliman Joy’s Dun In Style” one year, and sadly lost a foal the following year.  Sherri could never get her to settle after that. I guess it wasn’t meant to be. Princess was meant to be my friend for life.
